This is a MUST DO in Langkawi! Langkawi-Nature is a tour company which specializing in taking visitors on an unforgettable journey on Langkawi Island to see the local flora and fauna but without harming the environment.
They have won a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for three years running. Their experienced guides make the tour exciting and memorable for the whole family. Dev’s Adventure Tours is an eco-tour company located on the island of Langkawi, the most northern island off the west coast of Malaysia. They provide full and half day excursions into the surrounding countryside.
The guides are nature lovers themselves and the number of people in the group is kept to a minimum to ensure that everyone gets attention, the group doesn’t impinge on the environment and everyone gets to see the sites.
The guides speak excellent English and as the tour progresses they talk about the nature, animals, culture, history and other aspects of the island. The tours include mineral water, insurance and transfer to and from your hotel. They offer a discount of 20RM per person on the second tour if you book more than one tour on your stay in Malaysia. We had a wonderful guide Wendy, who was so knowledgeable and outgoing -she kept my daughter entertained and answered her 1000's of questions!
Nature Cycling Trips – The guide
leads you along river banks, passed paddy fields, through forests and
makes stops along the way including at a local village. (Adults 120RM,
children (10-12) 100RM; starts 8:30am or 3:30pm, duration 3-4 hours).
Mangrove
Kayak Trips – With this adventurous trip through the mangroves you get
to see the monkeys, eagles, otters, lizards, birds and even snakes. The
kayaks are built for two people in each and your guide will point out
the interesting flora and fauna in this unique eco-system and take you
to visit a bat cave. The trip includes lunch at a floating restaurant.
There are life jackets provided. (Adults 220RM, children 140RM, daily,
min. 1 person, starts 9:30 and 10:30am on Mondays and Fridays, duration
5-5.5 hours).
Mangrove Boat Trip – For a similar experience to the
kayak trip but without the hard work and getting wet you could take this
boat trip. On the tour you’ll see limestone outcrops, fossil locations,
caves and the local animals and plants. The trip price includes lunch
which can be had at the beginning or end of the trip. It is possible to
stop for a swim in the river subject to the tide level and weather
conditions. This is the best choice for families with kids 12 and under.
(Adults 160RM, children 100RM, infants 4 and under go free. Tours leave
daily with a minimum of 1 person. Starting time 9:30am (Mondays and
Fridays at 10:30am), 1:30pm and 3:30pm, duration 4-5 hours).
Bird
Watching – Bird lovers can take this tour to see some of the 230 species
of birds on the island. You will look through the jungle, across the
rice fields and near the river. The experienced guide will be able to
spot and point out the birds. He will take you to Gunung Raya, the
highest mountain on the island to see mountain birds. This is a
particularly good tour from November to April when many migrating birds
reach the island. (Adults 200RM, departure on request, pick-up at
7:30am, duration 5 hours)
Morning and Evening Walks – This is not a
difficult trek but it takes you through the tropical rainforest and gets
you close-up to nature. The nature guide will point out some of the
island’s 400 tree species some of which reach 70 meters high. You can
see the beautiful butterflies, birds and small mammals that live in the
rainforest. If you choose the jungle trek/evening walk option you get to
see how the forest changes when the sun goes down and the nocturnal
animals come out. You will probably see the flying lemurs or flying
squirrels. (Adults 120RM, children 80RM, departure daily minimum 1
person, morning trek 3 hours only jungle, late afternoon trek 2 hours
and 1-1.5 hour evening walk. Starting time 9am (Mondays at 10am) and
5pm, duration 3-3.5 hours.
