If you are ever in London with your daughter, there is no better bonding experience that you can experience together than sharing afternoon tea at the London Langham Hotel. While family travel time typically means incorporating activities that can be enjoyed by the entire family, sometimes it is a good idea to do something special just for the girls.
The five-star Langham hotel has one of London's most desirable addresses Regent Street and when you walk into the Palm Court, which is where afternoon tea is served, the opulence and excessive elegance will amaze you.
Reflected in marble walls, one of the very first things that you will notice immediately is the fresh flowers that are carefully placed almost everywhere in the room, as well as the leather chairs and the sleek chandeliers. Langhamβs elaborate tea ceremony has been taking place since 1865 and is deeply steeped in British tradition. Tea at the Langham is considered the Rolls Royce of afternoon tea. |
Start with a Glass of Champagne The afternoon tea service at the Langham starts with an option glass of champagne. I chose the rose and it was superb. My daughter had a refreshing lime and mint drink. |
The Tea
The menu is comprised of over 30 teas including those with herbal infusions, decaffeinated versions, organic teas, as well as the Jun Shan (Imperial Mountain) silver needle yellow tea, which is one of the rarest teas in the world. We loved the hibiscus tea! Having Matt our tea sommeilier suggest tea for us was wonderful too!
The finger sandwiches
The finger sandwiches are served in a beautiful three-tiered tableside cart, which means that you will still be able to have a conversation with anyone sitting across the table.
Unlike in other afternoon teas that place their tiered serving trays in the middle of the table. All the sandwiches are served with their crusts cut off as it is expected in the British tradition.
The Sweets
The sweets are served soon after the delicate sandwiches while the final tier is comprised of warm scones that are served alongside Devonshire clotted cream and strawberry preserves. The cakes were so beautiful we almost didn't want to eat them! We also enjoyed a honey cake that was divine! But both of our favourite part of the tea was the scones! I love my scones but these were truly outstanding!
Wow, we have tried a few afternoon teas on our travels from the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi and Raffles in Singapore or the Peninsula in Hong Kong and while they were all wonderful it comes as no surprise to me the Langham London has won the Best Afternoon Tea Service 2018! Delicious food and excellent service.
