Where to Stay in Zurich, Switzerland

Need help finding the best Zurich hotels? Zurich vacation accommodation is notoriously expensive and even more so for families, but here we let you know our favorite child-friendly hotels which offer larger size rooms and useful amenities for kids.

There are probably more luxury hotels in Zurich than economy hotels so choosing the top few is difficult.

Alden Hotel Splugenschloss 

Housed in an historic building which is one of Switzerland's heritage sites, the hotel opened its doors in 1895 and has been kept up to par with regular refurbishing. Many of the classic architectural features have remained like the stucco ceilings.

The hotel combines classic traditional charm with all the hi-tech amenities and luxury travelers could want. The rooms are large and the suites are individually furnished. Alden Hotel is a block from the waterfront. 

Dolder Grand Hotel 

Situated just outside of the city in the stunning countryside the hotel which resembles a castle looks down from a wooded hillside onto the lake and city.

Everything about the property is grand, including the elegant furnishings, marble floors and choice art. There is both a modern and a historic wing each with top quality amenities.

There is a restaurant overlooking the golf course and a terrace overlooking the lake. The hotel has a swimming pool, spa, sauna and gym. 

Hotel Swiss Night by Fassbind Zurich Hotel (formerly Claridge Hotel)

The room combinations in this luxury hotel make it suitable for families. There are junior suites, triple rooms, family rooms and quadruple rooms so you will always find a room with enough beds for your family.

The hotel is elegantly furnished with free internet access and restaurants. Baby sitting services are also available. 

Swissotel Zurich

This hotel has a wide range of room types and you can get a room in this 4 star hotel for 3 star prices (a double for $194). The location is between the airport and the city center with a few attractions only walking distance away and public transport right outside the hotel.

The hotel has all the modern amenities (tea/coffee set, WiFi, DVD player, safe) as well as having great views of the city and the mountains. There is a spa and swimming pool as well as a sauna, gym and solarium. The hotel has two restaurants.

With this chain of hotels you are guaranteed the clean cut furnishings and service you would expect in Switzerland.

This hotel provides kid's rooms complete with colorful linen, Nintendo Wii, DVDs, comics, toys and games and a connecting door to the parent's room.

There is even an alcohol-free mini bar with kid's snacks. The kid's rooms are for kids 0-17 years old and are tailored to suit their ages.

Guests can participate in free baby swimming lessons in the hotel pool. Even the restaurant food is nutritious and suitable for kids.

Zurich Medium Price Range Family Hotels

Best Western Hotel Zurcherhof
For a 3 star hotel this one has an excellent location, it was also ranked as the top Zurich hotel for value on Trip Advisor.

The hotel is a modern comfortable hotel which provides all you need in light, clean, airy rooms. The hotel is small enough (36 rooms) to have a boutique feel to it.

The price includes a Swiss buffet breakfast, there is a 24 hour front desk and a restaurant which served traditional Swiss food. This hotel suits those looking for an American style hotel in a good location at a reasonable price.

Novotel Zurich City West Hotel
This modern clean cut hotel offers connecting rooms, family rooms and has extra beds if the need arises.

They also provide cribs for babies, family rooms sleep 4 people. Internet access is available, an indoor swimming pool, a children's library, playgrounds both indoors and out as well as providing board games, bicycles with baby seats and baby bathtubs when needed.

Marc Aurel Badenerstrasse

This is an apartment hotel where each room has the amenities you would expect from a hotel (T.V., shower, mini bar) but they also have a small kitchenette.

The hotel allows pets and has WiFi and family rooms. The location is convenient and the rooms are clean. This is a great budget option.

Hotel Adler
This hotel is ranked as the top Family hotel in Zurich on Trip Advisor and gets this praise for its perfect location and friendly staff.

There is a restaurant on the premises and although the rooms are slightly small the hotel is good value for money. Room rates start at $USD 239 for a twin room and there are also Junior Suites.

Hotel Coronado
This hotel has family rooms and kids up to 6 years old sleep for free, there are also triple rooms and extra beds and cribs available.

Kids under 6 also eat breakfast for free and under 12-year-olds have a reduced rate for breakfast.

Zurich Budget Family Hotels

Youth Hostel Zurich
At the Zurich Youth Hostel you can get a double, quadruple or sextuplet room each with their own shower facilities and breakfast included. In Europe hostels often cater for families and the hostels are clean, well kept and respectable.

In Zurich they even offer rooms for upto 6. The rooms are comfortable although your beds will be bunk beds it is worth the money when you're on a budget and traveling with kids.

There is a swimming pool, wireless access, lounge, T.V. and laundry facilities available.

Schlaf im Stroh
I'd choose this one not for the price but the adventure. Take your kids to a barn on one of the local farms and spend the night on a bed of hay.

Schlaf im Stoh is a group of farms which rents out their barns with a fresh layer of hay (no cows) including a hearty farm breakfast. Your kids won't forget this "hotel" for a long time. Prices are per person and range from $USD30 to $USD10 depending on age.

Holiday Inn Zurich-messe 

This hotel allows pets (which sometimes come with kids) and for the teens there is free internet access. Rates for this hotel start at $USD 109 per room and there are connecting rooms available as well as large king size rooms.

There is a restaurant in the hotel which you won't find in many 3-star hotels. This hotel gets top reviews from families on Trip Advisor.
